An artistic couple has won the opportunity to display their works at the Welsh Millennium Centre, Cardiff.

Mark Brinkworth and artist Linda Richards both entered for the commission to hold exhibitions of their work in the centre.

The couple's artworks will be showcased until July 27, 2024, as part of the Hijinx Theatre Unity Festival.

Mr Brinkworth's journey hasn't been easy, diagnosed with severe Dyslexia and ADHD, he has shared incidences of abuse at the hands of his teachers.

He said: "They told me I would fail.

"They told me I was not fit to dig roads.

"One occasion at junior school, I ran away out of the school crying, after being hit by a wooden ruler across the face.

"I ran to a disused railway line. I sat on a log and my crying gave way to the singing of a small bird.

"I’ve loved life wild all my life, all these creatures didn’t bother me like teachers did.

"I wanted to learn how to read, so I could learn about them."

He attended the world-renowned documentary photography course at Newport Art College, graduating with merit.

He added: "Today, I still have this love of nature and there’s nothing better than sitting in a hide with my camera."

Ms Richards, transitioning from 21 years in retail to art, presents the piece "Queens & Princesses – an alternative point of view."

This art, exploring the female image through history, folklore, and fairytale, has been acclaimed for its feminist touch cloaked in humour.

Ms Richards, living with a disability, described the switch from retail to her "first love" of art, adding: "I’m Linda J Richards a mixed media artist living in Barry.

She added: "My work uses recycled materials and approaches feminism with a touch of humor.

"I came to Wales from the Lake District to Art college in Newport which is where I met my partner, Mark."

This exhibition promises an intimate reflection on the endurance and evolution of the human spirit.
