The new MP for the Vale of Glamorgan and the MS for the same area have joined forces with the Associated British Ports to raise awareness about the hazards when swimming in Barry.
New MP, Kanishka Narayan, and Member of the Senedd, Jane Hutt, have highlighted the escalating problem of young people swimming in the water at the port of Barry.
During a meeting in Barry, issues of anti-social behaviour resulting from the activity were discussed with divisional port manager, Ashley Curnow.
Ms Narayan MP said: "Not only is the port a dangerous place to swim, but the associated anti-social behaviour negatively impacts local residents.
"We urge everyone to keep safe and refrain from entering the water."
Ms Hutt MS also said: "As we approach the school summer holidays, our priority is keeping everyone safe.
"The RNLI’s ‘Float to Live’ campaign provides practical steps to help individuals survive if they encounter difficulties in the water.
"Please stay safe and avoid swimming in the dock."
Mr Curnow, heavily warned of the hidden dangers lurking in port waters, adding: "Swimming and jumping into the water within our ports, docks, and harbours is strictly prohibited.
"Hidden hazards lurk beneath the water’s surface, and escaping once in the water can be challenging.
"Please stay safe and do not enter the water."
