The next monthly Shared Reading meeting in St Athan will take place on August 9.

The Reader, a charity aiming to broaden and enhance people’s literary experiences, is introducing a shared reading group to St Athan each month, with the assistance of Reader leader, Amanda.

Shared reading gathers individuals in small clusters to recite from a book, short story, or poem.

Research indicates these gatherings contribute to enhanced wellbeing, decreased social seclusion, and the construction of more supportive communities.

A participant emphasised its necessity saying: "You need it, you just don’t know you need it".

A warm reception and select readings are provided by a welcoming Reader leader, crafting an environment where individuals of any age or circumstance can link with themselves and others, and consider meaningful thoughts powerfully.

Amanda said: "Shared reading groups are a great way to bring people together and give individuals a sense of belonging.

"There’s no pressure on anyone to read or speak, you can just come along and listen.

"Long-lasting friendships develop, health and wellbeing are positively improved and a journey of deep self-discovery begins."

"Watching all of this unfold within my readers is where the magic truly dwells, making it the most rewarding experience of my life."

The groups, which are free, usually last for 90 minutes, and are open to everyone.

The monthly group in St Athan meets at 9.30am every first Friday of the month at St Athan Community Hub and Library.

Helen Wilson, head of shared reading programmes at The Reader, said: "It’s fantastic to see our Shared Reading communities across the country beginning to get together again – to enjoy great writing, in good company – after so long.

"We are so glad to welcome you back."
