A new memorial garden has been opened in Barry by the Barry Veterans Group.
On Saturday, July 13, the Memorial / Community Garden, located at All Saints Church Hall, was officially opened.
Jane Hutt MS opened the garden with a ribbon cutting ceremony and the scattering of wildflower seeds at the wildflower garden section.
Following this, Canon Reverend Zoe King blessed the garden.
The new Vale MP Kanishka Narayan and Barry town mayor Catherine Iannucci-Williams were in attendance.
Benches within the garden are adorned with dedication plaques honouring deceased group members.
Family of these individuals were among around 80 attendees at the event, alongside other dignitaries, veterans, and All Saints Church members.
The Lottery Community Fund provided the finances needed for the garden's creation.
It serves as a space for veterans, their family members and the larger Barry community that frequents the hall.
The Barry Veterans Group, recipient of the 2024 Veteran Group of the Year accolade at the Wales Veterans Awards, hosts a weekly breakfast group at the All Saints Church Hall.
These meetings, held from 10am till 1pm, support veterans and their families.
Additionally, the group arranges monthly social evenings.
