THE people of Barry rocked out at Cadstock Music Festival 2024.

The much-loved festival has been under intense pressure over the last few years with a fight to stay on die to spiralling set-up costs.

The event can cost as much as £20,000 to run and in 2023 it was cancelled before being put on at the last minute, partly due to a large injection of cash from Barry Town Council.

All that pressure was released in two days of great music at Victoria Park on Saturday, July 13, and Sunday July 14.

Despite its struggles, Cadstock is still a huge pull and that was clear when we went to event on Saturday evening.

The park was heaving with barley anywhere left to sit in front of the band stand as live music was played over a superb sound system.

The people of Barry danced on the park pathways and sat and chilled with a cold beer or glass of prosecco listening o the superb music from the likes of Harrison Ollier, Dansette, Little Giants and more.

In a change to this year, there was a push for donations to help keeping Cadstock going.

Previously a spokesperson for Cadstock said: “The festival is costing £20,000 to run in total.

“We have agreed that Cadstock should and will remain totally free for all.

“Five thousand of you attended last year's festival and we were very thankful to received 89 total donations totalling £1,500.

“We are hoping to double it this year to get a bit closer to the approximately £5,000 that is needed.”
