THERE’S a new place to have a good time in Barry, with a classy cocktail bar recently opening.
Barry offers a multitude of delights, from the beaches, to the funfair, to the restaurants and bars in town, and now there’s somewhere else for people to relax, meet up and even party...
‘Kanya cocktail bar’ recently opened on Broad Street bringing to the high street freshly made cocktails, a classy place to meet up for a night out and even have a good ol’ dance.
Kanya is the brainchild of previous bar owners Jamie, Chantell and David.
The bar is a swish, modern looking establishment which includes a dancefloor at the back with DJ booth and the all-important disco ball.
David explained a little bit about what Barry’s latest bar is all about.
“The whole ethos of Kanya is about inclusivity,” said David. “We’re not aiming it at one age group, everyone is welcome.”
Kanya really is going to be something special, insists David, particularly the quality of its cocktails which will all be freshly made using as much local produce as possible.

When we spoke to David he said he wanted to bring the business to Barry after feeling Cardiff was saturated and in order to attract customers businesses were offering to many gimmicks.
“Having a night out in Barry it feels like there is nothing in between,” said David. “It’s either a drink at the pub, or a full-on night out. Kanya bar wants to fill that gap.”
David, a seasoned professional in the hospitality trade, is old school. He wants to offer people the chance to do something simple; come have a drink, meet up with friends, maybe have a dance, have a good time and just enjoy the night – no gimmicks, just a great experience and chance to socialise!
And the team are also acutely aware this is a difficult time for customers finances – after the food shop and the energy bills they might not always have the money left over to enjoy a night out, but Kanya insists they will offer value for money and plenty of offers, giving people the chance to still have a good time even in these tricky financial times.
“Everything in the bar is quality,” said David. “We are aware there is a cost-of-living crisis so we want to give people the best value for money.
“The biggest thing for us will be customer experience, everyone is a VIP,” added Jamie. “We want people to have a good time while offering value and some great offers.”
Kanya bar, on Broad Street, is currently open Friday and Saturday’s from 6pm, with plans to expand those times and what they offer in the future. Watch this space!
