A SPECIAL free musical event featuring three acclaimed choirs is set to raise funds for a vital charity in Barry on Tuesday, July 9.
Hosted at All Saints Church in Barry at 7.30pm, the event will spotlight Barry Ladies Choir, Tonyrefail Ladies Choir and the combined choirs of St Peter’s and All Saints Vale of Glamorgan.
The event aims to generate money and increase awareness for Llamau, a charity committed to ending homelessness in Wales.
Leading the celebrated Tonyrefail Ladies Choir are hometown musicians Emily Gait-Scaglioni and Qi Zhang.
They will mark their 35th anniversary by performing the Welsh hymns 'Rachie' and 'Can you feel the love tonight'.
They will also perform a new song called ‘Harbour’ by Anna Tabbush.
Audiences will also be treated to the resonating music of a full church choir under the direction of James Bull and organist David Thomas.
Their recent repertoire includes pieces like ‘Panis Angelicus’ and the Welsh anthem ‘O Ddewi Sanctaidd’ by contemporary composer Meirion Wynn Jones.
Barry Ladies Choir, meanwhile, will bid a warm goodbye to Matt Probert, their musical director of almost ten years.
Mr Probert has revealed his favourite pieces to conduct are ‘It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)’ and Coldplay's iconic ‘Viva la Vida’.
Even though admission is free, attendees are encouraged to make cash, card or online donations.
An interval will provide refreshments and include a hamper raffle.
