The Vale of Glamorgan is one of the most eco-friendly areas in Wales according to new research.
A study has revealed a list of the top 10 greenest areas, and the Vale scored highly due to its number of public electric vehicle (EV) chargers, walking trails, green spaces, and low annual emissions.
Vale of Glamorgan ranked fourth with an eco-friendly score of 7.12 out of 10.
According to the research, the Vale boasts 98 public EV chargers and 28 walking trails.
Additionally, the area scored well for its average number of parks, public gardens, and playing fields (2.7 per 1,000 m radius), the highest behind Cardiff, with emissions standing at 3.6 kt CO2e per km2.
The results come as new data measures annual emissions, the presence of green spaces, and the availability of active travel solutions like walking trails and electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
Cardiff leads the way with a 9.56 score, aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030.
The study placed Swansea in second with 97 walking trails and 147 public EV chargers.
In third place, Newport in South Wales, scored 7.49/10, home to 138 public EV chargers and 31 walking trails.
Despite not being in the top three, the Vale of Glamorgan's significant green credentials with a score of 7.12/10 highlight the area's commitment to being eco-friendly.
This is a noteworthy achievement in Welsh sustainability championing low emissions, maintaining green spaces, and facilitating greener modes of travel.
