THE Vale celebrated Pride Month with the likes of H from Steps, BBC weatherman and drumming legend Owain Wyn Evans and a big announcement from Pride in Barry.
Barry’s Pride event to be a fixture every year
Barry hosted only their third Pride parade and festival on Saturday, June 15, and it was such a success that Barry Pride organiser Pierre Codron said Pride in Barry is planned to run the second weekend in June every year, while he also had ambitious plans to set up satellite events throughout the year.
“It went really well," said Mr Codron, who estimated 500 people marched for Pride in Barry along Holton Road before holding a festival in Central Park.
“It was our third event and the best location. We plan to run a Pride event in Barry every year and we want to try keep it grass roots Pride meaning we want to try keep it as a free event.”
Mr Codron thanked sponsors who helped keep the event ‘grass roots’ including Dow Silicones, Goodsheds, Front Room, and Academy to name just a few.
He also went on to explain why it’s important to have Pride in Barry
“There is still a few negative comments out there,” said Mr Codron. “The aim is to educate people. Negative comments can come from fear and not understanding the community and we are very much trying to educate people and explain why we need a Pride event.”
As well as thanking sponsors, Mr Codron went on to thank the volunteers for their amazing work in helping make the event happen.
“We had 17 volunteers this year, they did an absolutely fantastic job, they were amazing and a big shout out to them.”
Mayor of Cowbridge H from Steps leads town Pride celebrations
In Cowbridge, H from Steps wasn’t celebrating the statue they built to honour him…. No, no, no, he was leading Pride in the town along with the help of BBC weatherman Owain Wyn Evans.
Mr Evans captured the scene in a video on his Instagram showing Cowbridge high street lined with hundreds of people all supporting Pride.
