A MAN was sent to prison for assaulting a Barry publican and damaging his property.

On December 15, 2023, Malaki Peel, of NFA, Buttrills Walk, used threatening behaviour and damaged a window to the cost of £400 belonging to Butterfly Collector landlord Gareth Slattery.

Peel, 22, also assaulted Mr Slattery on the day in question.

Peel pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and causing criminal damage on January 25.

He pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Slattery, but was found guilty of this offence after trial on May 21.

After the trial Peel was sentenced.

For using threatening behaviour and causing criminal damage Peel was sent to prison for 16 weeks for which he will serve four.

He’ll also pay Mr Slattery £400 compensation.

For the assault, Peel got two weeks in prison. The sentence for this charge will run concurrently with the sentence for the first two charges.

Reasons for the imprisonment included the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence.

Peel was also deemed to have demonstrated poor compliance with supervision, and his level of risk to the community was ‘unmanageable’.
