WE’RE going to make a claim here at the B&D; Barry has the nicest street in Britain! It could be true and we’ve even been sent the photos to prove it...

Residents in the picturesque cul-de-sac of Heol Corswigen organised a street party to celebrate the coronation of King Charles that even the King himself would have been proud to attend.

Now, the residents have been at it again, spreading neighbourliness and cheer by holding another street party and in the process raising money for charity.

The King didn’t attend this one, but the new mayor of Barry, Cllr Iannucci-Williams did.

Mark Ruckley is one of the key instigators of the ever more frequent events, which started in Covid.

During this dark time, something bright and beautiful blossomed from it – the WhatsApp group of the residents of Heol Corswigen.

Residents came together to support each other the only way they knew how while restrictions were up, and once those restrictions dropped the group just carried on, turning the WhatsApp channel into a nifty platform to set up events.

“We set up the WhatsApp group during Covid, said Mr Ruckley. “Now the community just gets together and we all muck in!”

In their latest street party, residents of Heol Corswigen had food, drink, stalls, held a raffle and hosted a quiz, for which they raised £105 for Ty Hafan.

The mayor, who came in a respectable second place in the quiz, said it was great to see communities ‘looking out for each other’.

“I was so pleased to be invited and really enjoyed the party,” said Mayor Iannucci-Williams.

“It was great to see how everyone on Heol Corswigen looks out for each other, and it was a bonus to come second in Nigel's excellent quiz!”
