A MAN had to be rescued from the sea and kids were throwing stones onto a ‘busy’ beach in a turbulent weekend for the emergency services after the summer finally broke.
It’s been a long winter, but last week high pressure built and summer kicked in big time with the sun out and temperatures soaring, and that meant people flocked to the beach.
However, there were issues and in two of them Llantwit Major coastguard and South Wales Police were called to incidents.
On Thursday, May 9, a man was rescued from the sea after falling off cliffs.
On this incident, Llantwit Major Coastguard posted on their Facebook page: “The team were paged to a person fallen from cliffs near Ogmore.
"The casualty was recovered by lifeboat and taken to be treated. We assisted the police with a search of the area.”
South Wales Police added: “At 9.15am on May 9, South Wales Police was called to assist the coastguards who were rescuing a man from the sea at Ogmore by Sea.
“The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.”
In separate incident, on Saturday, May 11, two kids were seen throwing stones from the top of cliffs onto ‘busy’ Monknash beach.
Thankfully no one was injured and by the time the police got there the kids had left the area.
On this incident, Llantwit Major Coastguard posted on their Facebook page: “We were tasked to assist police at Monknash beach with youths throwing stones from the top of the cliffs on to the busy beach below.”
South Wales Police added: “At around 2.10pm on May 11, South Wales Police received information from the coastguards that two children had been seen throwing stones onto Monknash beach from the cliffs.
“The children had left the area. No-one was injured.”
