THERE was glitz and glamour in Barry of all places yesterday as a Hollywood A-lister was spotted filming a movie in town.
Shia LaBeouf has an extensive big screen acting career including films like Transformers, Indianna Jones, and Disturbia and playing alongside the likes of Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt.
However, yesterday, May 9, LaBeouf was sitting on the pavement on Holton Road with a thick beard and wearing a beanie hat, knocking back a can of diet coke.
Barry and District News has been given incredible photos of the filming on Holton Road, supplied by a local tattoo artist, for Lebeouf’s latest film Salvable, co-staring Toby Kebbell (Rock'n'Rolla) and Michael Socha (This Is England).
In fact, that tattoo artist in question became a part of the production.
Bianca Oliveira, originally of Brazil, fell for Barry boy Luke Harrison and together they opened tattoo studio Tattoorana on Richard Street opposite Friar Tucks fish shop.
When Ms Oliveira heard about filming she went to take a look and jokingly shouted out if any of the cast or crew wanted a free tattoo come to her tattoo parlour.
Well… crew members held her to her promise and when they went along they noticed a handy lane next to the building that was perfect for filming a scene of the shoot.
Within hours, Ms Oliveira's studio was swamped with cameramen, make-up artists and LaBeouf, Kebbell and Socha, as she welcomed the film crew to use her shop while they filmed the scene.
Friar Tucks was also said to be very hospitable to Hollywood actors (note to future Hollywood stars descending on Holton) supplying the team with free fish and chips.
And while they were supplying the fish and chips, Ms Oliveira was supplying the tattoos, with a number of crew members including the director getting one.
All of this led to Ms Oliveira supplying brilliant photos of the shoot, including a classic photo of LaBeouf sitting on the pavement on Holton Road chilling with a can of coke.
Salvable is a boxing crime-drama about a washed-up boxer’s chance at redemption in the form of illegal boxing.
Apparently Kebbell, who plays washed up boxer Sal, has been training at Penarth gym ABC on Station Road.
Hollywood A-lister LaBeouf plays Kebbell’s old friend Vince.
But the star of the show for Ms Oliveira was Socha, who she described as lovely, nice and humble – in fact Socha also got a tattoo off Ms Oliveria – the word ‘rebel’ written under his chest.
On the experience, Ms Oliveira said: “Shia LeBeouf was sitting on my couch in my studio where my clients sit. It was madness.
“My brain is still processing the whole thing.
“Shia was extremely busy filming, but he was very nice. They were all absolutely lovely.”
