There will be a talk on the history of Barry next week.

Nic Hodges is presenting the history talk evening at St Mary's Church on Holton Road, Barry, on Friday, May 17 from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Entry is £5 with proceeds going to the St Mary Ministry Area.

The talk will explore the 1880's, when Christian missionaries arrived in the town and started their churches in tents and delivered sermons in open fields.

The talk will also tell of how the missionaries addressed issues of drunkenness and immorality in the town.

Organisers of the talk say to expect captivating stories of Barry and the evolution of the town, including scandals that shocked and appalled residents of the town.
