A POPULAR restaurant has moved out of the Vale of Glamorgan and plans to go on the road in a venture “never before seen in Wales”.
The Rock and Scallop and the White Lion, at Ystradowen just outside of Cowbridge, had a special relationship, with RS owner Mathew Williams renting out the kitchen to cook up his superb seafood offering.
Mr Williams food offering is so good it attracted celebrities including TV star Stacey Solomon.
However, now Mr Williams has taken him and his team out the White Lion to present his food in a “new and innovative way”.
On Instagram, Rock and Scallop wrote: “First and foremost, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the team at the White Lion for an incredible 12 months.
“It’s been a whirlwind, and to our amazing customers, your support has been invaluable. Without you, The Rock and Scallop wouldn’t be what it is.
“As we bid farewell to the White Lion, I want to express a massive thank you to our fantastic team for helping us showcase our ethos of ‘quality sustainable fresh Welsh and Cornish seafood’.
“We’re taking a short break to recharge for the summer - well deserved family down time - and will soon unveil some exciting news about our next venture.
“We’re bursting with anticipation for what’s to come and can’t wait to share it with you.
“While we’ll stay true to what The Rock and Scallop stands for, we’ll be presenting it in a fresh and innovative way, never been seen in Wales before.”
It seems the parting was very much amicable, with the White Lion reciprocating: “Rachel and I would like to wish Mathew the very best in his future business ventures.
“Good luck and enjoy the family time.”
The Rock and Scallop attracting celebrities to the Vale of Glamorgan
Football stars, rugby stars and TV stars – throughout its time the Rock and Scallop has attracted a lot of famous people – including rugby legend Scott Quinnell and TV and former X Factor contestant Stacey Solomon.
In November last year, Stacey was in South Wales with sister Jemma visiting friend influencer Charlotte Greedy and they stopped off at the Rock and Scallop.
With the ‘Sort Your Life Out’ star having a photo with Mr Williams, and the White Lion saying “our first Sunday of Mathew Williams roasts was a huge success”, it meant we had to try what was on offer, so, in December, we went and tried RS’s Sunday roast – see what we thought about it, here.
RS finished their emotional message on Instagram, saying: “Thank you from the depths of my heart, and I hope you’ll join us on this journey again very soon.”
