A BARRY based wine shop has expanded after growing success.
Barry and District first reported on Corc. when it opened at the Goodsheds in May 2023.
Now, business partners Nick Lawrence and Emily Weaver have taken the next step and moved out the Goodsheds and into a bigger premises on Hight Street.
Corc opened at Goodsheds with the ambition to make fine wines accessible.
Ms Weaver and Mr Lawrence have extensive hospitality experience, and wine knowledge, and have brought that knowledge to their own business.
Sitting in the clean crisp and inviting new store, Ms Weaver was grateful to the start Goodsheds gave Corc.
“There was not really a plan to open in Goodsheds,” said Ms Weaver. “But we did it and it turned out to be a really good start and a good opportunity to make connections. Goodsheds has done that for a lot of people.”

With the bigger space comes additional services.
Corc on the High Street now has an impressive tasting room in the back, as well as an extensive front section – including the obligatory grand piano.
Ms Weaver explained the tasting room is the big addition to the business.
“With the space we’re able to do things for ourselves," said Ms Weaver. "If we wanted to do tasting sessions at Goodsheds we would have had to book a space, but here we are totally in control.”
So what do those tasting sessions involve? They can be up to two hours and host ten people at a time. You’ll get a selection of nibbles as well as four, five, or six servings of wine depending on the quality and the theme – for example B&D stumbled into the shop before a Malbec themed session.
On the sessions, Ms Weaver said: “You can book groups with your friends, or join one and come along and either taste the wines and just enjoy them, or you can discuss it with us and ask loads of questions.”
You can also sit in and enjoy your favourite tipple by the glass on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
And Ms Weaver and Mr Lawrence also like a challenge – so if you had a delicious wine at a restaurant last night and want to buy it, go to Corc and they’ll try to track it down for you.
It all sounds like an extra special little corner of heaven in heavenly Barry.
Corc is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am.
