A Barry church is doing its bit to help save lives after receiving a defibrillator.
Calon Hearts donated a new defibrillator to St Mary’s Church following a successful fundraising campaign by Vale MP Alun Cairns, who displayed his commitment to the cause by running the London Marathon on behalf of the charity.
The defibrillator unveiling ceremony coincided with the opening of the church's new peace garden.
The well-attended event was a joyful combination of community participation with performances from school children.
Reflecting on the installation of the defibrillator, Mr Cairns said: "Last year I had the pleasure of running the London Marathon to raise funds for Calon Hearts to place a defibrillator at St Mary’s Church in Barry and I am glad to see that the defibrillator has now been fitted, ensuring Barry has wider access to life-saving equipment in an emergency."
Calon Hearts, established by Sharon Owen in 2013, is known for promoting heart health in Wales.
They have installed more than 28,500 defibrillators across Wales and continue to educate people on heart health and emergency response procedures such as CPR.
