A PARK in Dinas Powys is been handed over to the community council on a 99-year lease, in a bid to improve the area.
Seel Park in the town is transferring to the community council from the Vale of Glamorgan Council, which says it is a demonstration of partnership working.
Vale cabinet member for sports, health and wellbeing, Cllr Gwyn John said: “Partnership working lies at the heart of our council’s commitment to progress and prosperity.
“Through collaborative efforts, we aim to build resilient communities, drive sustainable development, and create a lasting positive impact for all.
“We are confident in Dinas Powys Community Council and Friends of Seel Park’s commitment to improving the area for the benefit of the wider community.”
He said partnership served as a clear example of collaborative efforts where it was acknowledged that a piece of public open space could be maintained by a local organisation, in this case the Friends Seel Park Group.
The park will have a deed of dedication placed upon it from Fields in Trust and will therefore be available to enjoy for future generations and protected from development.
The Friends of Seel Park group has been instrumental in seeking improvements to the park. The group will continue to work with Dinas Powys Community Council once the transfer is complete.
The group aim to improve these areas to support nature conservation and enable people to enjoy the open space further. The area for the transfer includes a wooded area and a play area.
