A MUM-OF-TWO has achieved her dream of opening her first Thai restaurant near Barry town centre.
May Chaimontree moved to Barry in 2016 and always dreamed of opening a restaurant.
Now, Ms Chaimontree has achieved her dream, opening her first restaurant, Thai Town on Wednesday, November 22.
She said: “Looking back I would have loved to open my restaurant, but the timing was wrong, and I didn’t have the money.
“But now I am ready and that’s why I went for it and opened because I believe I am good at cooking.”
Ms Chaimontree, who has one son, and a daughter told the Barry & District News that it was a dream come true to open the restaurant and share her Thai food with Barry locals.
She added: “I feel proud of myself, and I keep thinking is this happening as my dream come true. I feel appreciated and delighted to open my first restaurant here in Barry.
“I love living here, and I would like people to know about Thai food and serving good Thai food to the people of Barry.”
Thai Town opened on the former site of Caprino’s Pizza and Italian takeaway The Dining Room.
The restaurant serves traditional Thai food such as Tom Yum Goong (hot and sour shrimp soup) and pad Thai, a noodle stir-fry with a sweet savoury-sour sauce scattered with crushed peanuts.
Ms Chaimontree added: “I was inspired to open in the area because I think it does not have Thai food and I think it is good for me to try the new business here.
“I believe I can sell Thai food for the people in Barry, and I hope they continue to enjoy it.”
