A NEW year is nearly here with plenty of fun to be had in Barry and beyond.
From festivals, sports, and everything in between there's no shortage of events and activities planned in the coastal town.
Here we take a look at some of the big events lined up in Barry for 2024…
SWYD Triathlon (Barry Island)
May 16
This triathlon race is a European Qualifier and the Welsh National Spring Championship – it is part of the Triathlon Cymru Super Series 2024 and will be televised.
It’s a closed roads race with chip timing – at the finish line people will receive a medal and goodie bag, with a finishers ceremony to be held at around 10am.

Barryfornia
May 19, and September 1
Independent clothing brand, Rothink Industries, is hosting Barryfornia in May and September.
The free Californian-inspired events will showcase a range of pre-90s vehicles and rides with competitions for those displaying their rides.
There will also be independent street food traders, makers, a DJ, refreshments, and official merchandise.

Barry Island Sea Shanty Festival
June 1 and 2
Wales’ first sea shanty festival is coming to Barry Island – it’s in conjunction with the Festival of the Sea celebrating 200 years of the RNLI.
There will be more than 40 shanty crews in various venues around Barry, with more details to be revealed closer to the time.

Barry Pride
June 15
Barry Pride will return on Saturday, June 15, celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
The event will run between midday and 8pm.
While the full details of Barry Pride 2024 have yet to be announced it will include a parade at 11am along with food, drink, and plenty of entertainment.

Barry Festival of Transport

Barry Festival of Transport is an annual event held at Barry Island and the bus depot showcasing a variety of classic and heritage vehicles.
It is organised by Cardiff Transport Reservation Group and often includes free trips on a selection of heritage buses, including (weather dependent) open top.
The details of the 2024 festival have not yet been confirmed – we will keep our readers updated.
Barry Island Festival of Food
June 29 and 30
This free popular event will see Barry Island taken over with stalls offering food, drinks, and crafts – plus live music and entertainment.
The two-day event brings people flocking to Barry Island – it will take place on June 29 and June 30, 2024, running between 11am and 7pm on both days according to Cardiff Bus.
More details of Barry Island Festival of Food will be announced closer to the time.
Cadstock

Cadstock is a free inclusive family-friendly music festival organised by volunteers and held at Victoria Park in Barry.
This year [2023] spiralling costs put the festival at threat of cancellation, but Barry Town Council offered financial support allowing the event to go ahead.
Event organisers will collaborate with the town council to find a more sustainable approach – we will keep our readers updated.
GlastonBARRY
July 27 and 28
GlastonBARRY is a tribute music festival which will be held at Romilly Park in Barry, with single day tickets or weekend passes available to buy.
There will be tributes to Foo Fighters, Tina Turner, Artic Monkeys and more.

ABP Barry Island 10K

The R4W 10K series includes five Welsh races delivered by Run 4 Wales (R4W) with one in Barry.
The series includes a Newport event in April, Cardiff Bay in May, Porthcawl one in July, and a Cardiff 10K in September.
The ABP Barry Island 10K will also be included but a date is being finalised, with discussions ongoing with the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
