Karry's Deli in Barry calls time and announces closure

Karry’s Deli on Park Crescent is to close in the new year.

Owner Karry Meyrick said it was time for a break after years of striving to try make the business a success.

At the end of October, after owner of popular bakery Brød, Betina Skovbro, revealed how hard it is to run an independent business in the current climate, Ms Meyrick responded revealing she pulls in no salary for herself and is unsure of the future.

Now, that future is sure, with Karry’s Deli set to close.  

In an emotional message on Instagram, Ms Meyrick said she could hold her head high.

“This is a post I've been putting off for so long, but I can't contain it any longer,” said Ms Meyrick.

“I have strived so hard to make this work.

“I have truly been blessed with such an opportunity and have had the best customers ever.

“I can hold my head high and be proud of giving something so big a go in one of the toughest times financially for a long time."

Ms Meyrick said she thanked all those who stood by and supported her.

“A big thanks to my suppliers, especially my hyper local ones - without you the shop wouldn't have existed in the first place. I'm glad I helped support your little businesses the best I could.

“Mentors and my daily cheerleaders, be them virtual (you know who you are), or visiting me daily/weekly, Business Wales mentors, other local traders and friend mentors, you’ve seen me ugly-cry more times these months than I ever have.

“Kudos to you for just being there and knowing what to say.”

It seems a tough time for traders in Barry.

Only at the beginning of November, we reported that popular fast food restaurant Sausage Revolution in Atlantic Industrial Estate shut its doors for good.

Ms Meyrick went on to leave a special thank you for two particularly important people.

“The biggest public thanks by far goes to my biggest supporters, mum and dad, who've been there on the side lines cheering, supporting, guiding and listening to me through the highs and lows, worries and tears.

“Thank you for believing in me and my crazy little dream and STILL sticking by me on this toughest of decisions lately and indeed what the future may hold.”
