SHOPPERS recently enjoyed a successful Farmers’ Market at The Goodsheds in Barry.
Fourteen traders joined existing food businesses and shops for a busy day at the beginning of November.
The event was sponsored by Barry Town Council’s Shop Local grant and organised by Goodsheds’ traders.
Among those at the farmer’s market was the mayor of Barry, who said it was great to see so many different stalls representing local producers and bringing together a range of specialist food and drinks stalls.
Mayor Johnson said: “I was really pleased to see shops from all over town working together to improve the shopping offer, with shops from Holton Road, Park Crescent and Barry Island all taking on stalls so that they could sell to a bigger audience, joining the many businesses already open at the Goodsheds.
“Just like the recent Halloween trail that Shop Local businesses organised, this was a great way of reminding people of the range and variety that’s available in our shopping areas across Barry.”
Loft Co run Goodsheds and director Simon Baston said the initiative is a great way of working together to keep the physical shopping experience alive, something we discovered when we took a closer look at the clever partnership between charity Baby Basics and new pre-loved children’s clothes store Eto.
On the farmers market, Mr Baston said: “Goodsheds continues to support all local and independent business in a flexible and positive manner.
“The farmers’ market is an example of two tenants at the Goodsheds successfully forging links with independent produce suppliers of the VOG and wanting to strengthen these ties to ensure an opportunity for all aspiring businesses.”
Goodsheds has grown and grown this year with a further section completed in August and new shops up for rent.
The site could have a major asset in the future when it was announced Cardiff and Vale College plan to put a new campus next door to the site.
And recently, a Pokémon store in the Goodsheds was so popular it has managed to expand to Newport.
The next Goodsheds’ Farmers’ Market is set for December 10.
