A new store selling pre-loved baby and children's clothes has opened in Barry town centre - and provided a new home for an important local charity.
Eto by Awesome Wales opened on Saturday, November 4, on Holton Road. The shop sells pre-loved baby and children’s clothes, books and games that aim to find them a new home at affordable prices.
The shop was officially opened by Barry Town Council Cllr Ian Johnson, along with Amy Greenfield and Stuart Burnell, who run the plastic-free shop Awesome Wales on the other side of the street in Barry town centre.
Cllr Ian Johnson, Mayor of Barry said: “It is always a great pleasure to open a new shop on Holton Road, in the heart of our town centre shopping area.
“Within the current cost-of-living crisis, Eto meets an identified need for pre-loved baby and children’s clothing and books which can be bought for an affordable price by local families and builds on the experience of the team at Awesome Wales.
Cllr Johnson told the Barry and District News the store will have starter packs for families with babies and toddlers.
He added: “The store will also act as a new base for Baby Basics, who provide starter packs for families to support them with their babies and toddlers, so making good use of all of the space in this part of the former Dan Evans department store.”
The charity Baby Basics had been looking for a new home after the store where it was previously housed closed down.
Baby Basics, which provides baskets of essentials to help new parents, has previously had funding from Barry & District News publisher's charity appeal - The Gannett Foundation.
The opening day of Eto was hailed a success with busy customers looking for good quality and good value products as half-term ends.
Eto, which is Welsh for ‘Again’ will also be hosting Baby Basics, which provides baby and toddler equipment for families.
