A NEW art exhibition at the Art Central Gallery in Barry has attracted artists from around the world.
The multimedia art exhibition, titled At A Loss, was created by Barry artist Inga Burrows and deals with the process of loss and grief after the death of a loved one.
The exhibition includes work from artists around the world, including Germany, Israel, and Denmark, alongside artists from Wales and England.
Cllr Ian Johnson, Barry Town Mayor was present at the launch on Saturday, October 5.
He said: “Many of the artists’ works are about the loss of a family member, whether a parent or a child, but some focused on the loss of our natural world.
“That means that much of the work is very raw and powerful in its emotion because of the closeness of the artist to the subject.
“Bringing together works from sixteen international artists is highly ambitious and it was great to see so many of them at the event and willing to discuss and explain about their pieces.”
Artists involved in the exhibition used their personal experiences of loss to create new pieces of art, often using material connections, such as clothing, as a starting point.
The works for the exhibition were funded by a grant from the Arts Council of Wales with an in-kind contribution from the Vale of Glamorgan Arts Service.
An opening speech was given by Vale Cabinet member, Cllr Rhiannon Birch, before a performance by Danish artist Dagmar Radmacher.
The exhibition runs until Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Art Central Gallery, with free entry.
