A VALE politician was presented with a sheep on his office door step.
Gerald the sheep was presented to Alun Cairns by the Barry and Vale Green party as part of a petition calling for better protection to farm livestock from dog attacks.
Reports say that, sadly, Mr Cairns was unable to meet Gerald in person.
Despite this, Conservative MP for Vale of Glamorgan Cairns did say it was an issue close to his heart.
"As someone who keeps animals, this issue is also a concern of mine," said Mr Cairns.
"Having raised this matter with the Government, I am reassured that they remain committed to introducing legislation to tackle this."
Why was Alun Cairns presented with a sheep?
On Wednesday, September 20, Gerald the sheep came a'knocking (a'baaing is probably more appropriate) on Mr Cairns' office door along with members of the Barry and Vale Green Party.
The party are calling on the UK Government to crack down on dog attacks on farming livestock.
They say they condemn the government for dropping plans for the Kept Animals Bill, which would have introduced greater protection for livestock from dangerous dogs.
The bill would have also banned live exports, cracked down on puppy smuggling, and seen a ban on primates as pets.
A spokesperson for the party said: "Last month, the Conservatives refused to revive the Bill.
"Farmers across Wales, including the Vale of Glamorgan, will have been deeply disappointed that the Conservative government decided to withdraw the Bill at the last moment.
"We support efforts to ensure that a bill is introduced urgently to pass these protections and new powers into law.
"Farmers rightly feel betrayed by this Conservative government, they need action, not excuses!"
The party ensured us no sheep were hurt in the making of this article.
