ONE of the Vale’s oldest churches is at threat of closure due to a staggering repair bill.
St Bleiddians Church, in St Lythans, is facing a massive £50,000 repair bill.
The church, which has a small congregation, is described as sitting on a special site that has been a sacred gathering place for millennia.
A crucial meeting about its future is to take place on October 12 at the church at 7pm.
Where is St Bleiddian's Church
The picturesque village of St Lythans lies to the north of Wenvoe and northwest of Duffryn.
As you drive in, St Lythans ticks all the boxes of a stereotypical picturesque Welsh village with country lanes, hedgerows, and surrounded by beautiful fields.
Described as an 'affluent hamlet', the village lies six miles from Barry and seven miles Penarth.
A spokesperson for the church revealed the huge funding gap required to keep it open.
“St Bleiddians is a special site, a sacred gathering place for millenia,” said the spokesperson.
“Sadly expenses are more than income and it is likely more than £50,000 of repairs is required in order to maintain the building’s use.
“We are inviting all who are interested in the future of St Bleiddans to gather and hear an update on the financial picture and to explore ideas and possibilities for ensuring the future use of this sacred place.”
