AN emergency distress beacon was issued from an aircraft.
A Barry Dock all-weather lifeboat was tasked by the HM coastguard on Saturday, September 2, to identify an activated emergency distress beacon.
The beacon was registered to an aircraft approximately one mile south of Rhoose Point.
The aircraft was later located safely at Cardiff Airport and the emergency locator beacon was deactivated.
Crews onboard the lifeboat executed a search pattern with good visibility and due to the technology on the boat they were able to identify the distress signal.
The Barry Dock RNLI worked closely with colleagues at Barry Coastguard on the shoreline to identify any possible targets.
A spokesperson for RNLI Barry Dock said: “Upon confirmation that the aircraft was located safely at Cardiff Airport our volunteer crew returned back to the station, readying our lifeboat for service again, before going to enjoy a well-earned lunch in the warm sunshine.”
