A STORE in Barry which provides a vital service to disadvantaged people is set to close due to rising costs.
The ReStore Furniture Shop, on Thompson Street, saves the people of Barry thousands in reduced prices on a huge array of donated items which it resells.
But those bargains could be about to disappear as the shop is set to shut its doors for good.
The store revealed it can no longer continue due to needing more support, coupled with rising costs.
In a heartfelt message on their Facebook page, ReStore thanked everyone who had supported the business over the years and said they will miss being part of the community.
And there was an outpouring of love for the store, with customers commenting how much the shop meant to them.
One loyal customer said: “This is awful news, I really hope there is some way that you can stay open, you are vital for this community. I absolutely love coming to your shop and having a look around, I must go in there at least four times a week. We've bought some lovely things there and try to give something back by donating anything that we no longer need.”
Another customer said: “Going to miss all you guys. You have all been amazing. Lovely friendly staff. You have worked so hard to keep the shop looking absolutely amazing. It had been a pleasure working as a volunteer with you all.”
Another customer suggested: “Maybe an article in a local newspaper, or even go as far as an online funding page for donations?”
The shop responded to the messages by saying: “Thank you for all your comments. We feel loved! Please come and see us before we go and maybe pick up some bargains.”
In their full statement, the store said: “We’re very sorry to announce that we will be closing at the end of August.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us with donations and especially the staff and wonderful team of volunteers.
“The project has grown over the years, requiring more support and this - together with rising costs - means that as a small charity we are no longer able to sustain it.
“We’ve explored all options to keep operating but sadly these are not viable.
“We have loved being part of the community and will miss you.
“Our closing down sale starts July 31, with 50 per cent off large furniture and 75 per cent off all other items.
“Thank you.”
