A CLUB in Barry has been named the best in Wales, according to Camra (the Campaign for Real Ale).
Barry West End Club has been judged the best club in Wales in 2022 by Camra.
In a competition that involved clubs from all over the country, all entries are judged against a set of criteria which includes the quality and condition of their real ales, promotion and knowledge of real ales, cleanliness, community focus and atmosphere, service and welcome, style, decor and furnishing and sympathy with the organisataion's aims.
CAMRA’s Vale of Glamorgan & Bridgend branch chair, Richard Taylor, said: “The club is more than just its beer it’s a hub for the local community and a meeting place for many different activities and groups.
"The overall feeling you get when you enter the club is that the owners really care about their members, making sure they are welcome, comfortable as well as fed and watered.
"There is always something going on in this busy club and so it’s is only fitting that they have received this year’s Welsh CAMRA Club of the Year award.
"Congratulations to the owners and its members for this well-deserved award.”
Visitors are welcome to sample the keenly priced ales at this multiple winner of the local CAMRA Club of the Year.
Housed in a red brick building overlooking Barry Old Harbour, it features a bar, lounge, function and snooker rooms.
The club holds a couple of beer festivals during the year and has been home to a cricket club for more than 30 years.
It fields skittles, adult and junior football and snooker teams, and even has chess, fishing and scuba clubs.
