A BOUTIQUE and yacht club joined forces for a charitable fashion show.
The collaboration between Barry’s Yacht Club and The Gallery Boutique saw £800 raised for Breast Cancer Now.
The show, held at Barry Yacht Club’s Compass bar and hall on October 21, attracted around 80 guests, many wearing pink in support of the charity.
Zonin Wines sponsored the event by giving each ticket holder a glass of pink prosecco on arrival.
The fashion show, organised by the yacht club’s social committee in collaboration with The Gallery Boutique, included 32 ensembles and outfits modelled by six volunteers from the club.
The evening was opened by Barry Town Mayor, Cllr Helen Payne, who was joined by councillors Pierre Codron and Sandre Perkes.
At the event Cllr Payne said:
“All of us here tonight know someone in our family or social circles who has had breast cancer, fought it or succumbed to it.
“Research and support are absolutely vital!
“I commend Barry Yacht Club for staging this fundraiser and thank you all for supporting it and wearing pink!”
The £800 raised through the fashion show will support Breast Cancer Now and be used for:
- Ongoing research;
- Treatment regimes;
- Health education projects.
Compere and organiser, Jen Haig Harrison, formally thanked all models for their “catwalk skills, patience and good humour” and social committee members for their considerable support with décor, ticket sales, and raffle prizes.
She acknowledged the raffle prize donations given by individuals and local businesses (including Vic Hopkins, Giggles [toy shop], Homemade Wales, and Vale Cake Boutique).
Ms Harrison added: “Our gratitude must also go to Cathy and her team from the Gallery Boutique for supplying an exquisite range of garments for us to showcase here tonight.”
