AN INDIAN takeaway in Barry has won at The Welsh Asian Food Awards 2022.
As previously reported Royal Balti Barry, in Vere Street in Cadoxton, was among nine finalists for the ‘Indian takeaway’ category at The Welsh Asian Food Awards.
The winners of the awards – now in their second year – were announced on Monday, August 15, with Royal Balti crowned Indian takeaway of the year.
Business owner, Muhammad Ahmed, said:
“We’re so pleased to announce that Royal Balti Barry has won the title ‘Indian takeaway of the year’ at The Welsh Asian Food Awards 2022.
“Thank you to all our customers for your nominations, great support, and continued custom.
“I’d also like to say a huge thank you to the team at Royal Balti Barry – you are all so hard working!”
This is the second time that Royal Balti in Barry has won this accolade – having also won it at the inaugural The Welsh Asian Food Awards in 2019.

Royal Balti – which offers food for collection and delivery – also won an award at the Welsh Takeaway Awards 2019, with the full story available here.
The eatery is also popular among our readers – earlier this year it was voted by you as one of the best takeaways in Barry. You can read more on that here.
And it’s possible that Royal Balti will soon have another win; the takeaway has been nominated for the Curry Life Awards 2022 which are organised by Just Eat.
A spokesman for the Curry Life Awards said:
”The Awards reward and recognise the individuals who represent the very best of the British curry industry and have shown innovation and inspiration in their work.
“The primary purpose of this event is to honour the outstanding chefs, takeaways, and restaurants, which have excelled in every way in the trade and culinary sector.”
The winners of the Curry Life Awards 2022 will be announced at a gala dinner in London on Sunday, October 9.
