PHOTOBARRYTHON is returning this summer – with plenty of events lined up.

PhotoBARRYthon is returning as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Summer of Fun programme, with challenges for photographers scheduled this August.

There will be a six-hour event, starting at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry, on Sunday August 7.

People taking part will be given a theme to photograph every hour; these topics will also be shared on social media or can be collected at venues across the town.

Those getting involved will then return to the Memo to upload their pictures, which can be taken on camera or on smart phones.

This event is free, but people wanting to take part must book their tickets in advance.

Between August 8 and August 12 there will be two-hour events taking place daily at multiple locations across Barry, as outlined below:

  • Monday, August 8: Barry Island;
  • Tuesday, August 9: Barry town centre and Central Park;
  • Wednesday, August 10: The Waterfront and Goodsheds;
  • Thursday, August 11: Cadoxton and Victoria Park;
  • Friday August 12: Porthkerry Country Park.

Four topics will be given over the two-hour period. People taking part can choose to take part in as many or as few of these free events as they wish.

Cabinet member for education, arts and the Welsh language, Cllr Rhiannon Birch, said:

“We’re so pleased to announce the return of the PhotoBARRYthon as part of Summer of Fun. This will be a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to capture some of Barry’s best assets.

“A top selection of judges has been put together and prizes and certificates will be given to winners.

“It’s been great to see local businesses getting involved, including Marco’s Cafe, Awesome Wales, Craft Republic, and Mr Villas.

“They’ll play host to some of the pick-up points for the challenge.”

This event is organised by local photographer, Michael Goode, and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
