NEARLY two-thirds of people over 50 in the Vale of Glamorgan have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

Public Health Wales data shows 35,863 people aged 50 and over have been given both doses of a vaccine up to May 16 – 62% of the area's age group.

They make up part of the 54,661 people who have been given at least one jab – 94% of the over-50 population.

Figures on second doses for each age group in the Vale of Glamorgan show:

  • 50 to 54 – 1,900 administered (20%)
  • 55 to 59 – 2,090 administered (21%)
  • 60 to 64 – 5,373 administered (59%)
  • 65 to 69 – 5,476 administered (69%)
  • 70 to 74 – 7,458 administered (93%)
  • 75 to 79 – 5,426 administered (93%)
  • 80 and over – 6,978 administered (90%)

Across Wales, 921,000 people have had both doses, 36% of the over-16 population, and 2 million (78%) have had at least one dose.

Vaccinations are being given at 546 locations across Wales, including at 360 GPs' surgeries, 41 vaccination centres and 35 hospitals.

The Welsh Government aims for all adults to have been offered a vaccine by the end of July.
