A RADIO station is hosting a 12-hour event to support a good cause.
Radio RUAR is an online non-profit radio station, founded in 2019 by Robert Wiltshire who suffers PTSD from his time in combat.
Mr Wiltshire said: “I am ex forces and initially set the brand up with charity and creating events in mind – all the profits made from events we hosted went to various charities.
“Then coronavirus happened, and we wondered how we could continue helping others.
“We could see many DJs were at a loose end and out of work, so we created Radio RUAR.
“Helping others has helped me. Music helped me through a difficult time – battling with PTSD alone for 15 years.
“Music and the community were the only things in my life that helped me get through it.”
Mr Wiltshire setup the station with his partner, Keighly Lewis, and the pair have worked hard to create a platform for DJs and artists, also creating online events so they can continue to raise funds for charities.
On March 20, Radio RUER is running an online event with DJs performing over a 12 hour period, raising money for The Trussel Trust which runs food banks across the UK, including in the Vale.
Last year Trussel Trust Food Bank handed out 1.9 million food parcels to under privileged and low income families.
The event, running from 12pm to 12am, will be filmed from Ratio Studios in Merthyr Tydfil and aired across social media - you can find it on Facebook here and you can donate via their GoFundMe page.
“The government said the entertainment industry isn’t viable and that artists should retrain,” added Mr Wiltshire.
“In my opinion the music industry has been hit the hardest out of all the businesses – for many performers this is their only source of income, yet they’re still coming together to make a difference to other people’s lives.
“Not only is this raising funds for charities, but they are giving people stuck at home entertainment.”
