CORONAVIRUS cases in Penarth have gone down significantly in recent days, according to data from Public Health Wales.
In the seven days up to February 12, Penarth recorded 16 cases. It came down from 36 the previous week, which made Penarth the second-most prevalent Covid area in Wales for that week.
With 16 new cases in the week up to February 12, Penarth recorded the second-highest number in the Vale for that period, behind Barry Island with 19.
Overall cases are coming down week-by-week since the turn of the year.

In the week to February 12 the Vale recorded 109 cases at a rolling rate of 81.6 (the average in Wales currently is 85.6) - compared to 136 the previous week and 150 the week before that.
The last time the Vale recorded fewer than 109 cases was the week ending October 18.
More specifically, for the week up to February 12, Barry Island recorded 19 cases, Penarth recorded 16, Barry West recorded 15, Llandough and Cogan recorded 14, Lower Penarth and Sully recorded ten, Barry East recorded seven, Rhoose recorded seven, Dinas Powys recorded five, Gibbonsdown recorded five, Llantwit Major recorded five, and Palmerstown recorded three, while Ogmore and Llandow, Peterston and Wenvoe, and Barry Dyfan recorded fewer than two.
So far this week the Vale has recorded 41 new cases; 17 on Monday, 11 on Tuesday, and 13 on Wednesday.
There were 64 hospital Covid admissions in the Cardiff and Vale health board region in the week up to February 14 - the third-highest in Wales.
Coronavirus transmission in a hospital setting has been a concern for the health board in recent weeks, with the health board saying last month an outbreak at Llandough hospital contributed to a rise in onset figures. In the same week the health board again recorded the most hospital transmission cases in Wales, with 67 - up from 37 the previous week.
