FANS clamouring to catch a glimpse of the actors filming the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special in a Barry street, got an extra treat on Sunday, July 14.
Hundreds of people descended on Trinity Street – the location for the homes of the West family and uncle Bryn in the award-winning sitcom – and they were rewarded with the arrival of an ice-cream van laid on by co-writers James Corden and Ruth Jones, who play Smithy and Nessa.
Mr Corden called Barry Island café owner, Marco Zeraschi during the evening to see if he could source and ice-cream van to treat the people who had spent hours standing in the heat.
Mr Zeraschi said: “James Corden saw that there was so many people in Trinity Street and he phoned me and said he wanted an ice-cream van as soon as possible because he wanted to give all the spectators a lift.”
The ice-cream van was delivered to the street and cones dished up with customers abler to read a personal message signed by Mr Corden and Ms Jones.
The handwritten note, taped to the window, read: “Thank you for all your support.
“It means the world to us.
“See you on Christmas Day.
“Enjoy!”
Fans started gathering at the location on Friday, July 12 and following extensive publicity, and public spots, the number of onlookers swelled dramatically.
Mr Corden posed for selfies in Barry Island, around 2am on Friday, and also in Trinity Street during the three-day shoot.
Filming in a variety of Barry locations will be wrapped up by the end of the month.
