AN INJURED wild pigeon has died despite efforts by a community-minded citizen and an animal welfare organisation.

Cath Scanlin called RSPCA Cymru after finding the injured bird in Gibbonsdown Rise on Wednesday, August 29.

The adult pigeon had lost some feathers, and appeared to have a broken wing.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “It is thought that the pigeon may have been attacked by a cat or a sparrow hawk due to its injuries.

“The caller was advised to take the pigeon to a vet or keep it safe in a box.

An RSPCA inspector attended to collect the pigeon and sadly due to the severity of its multiple injuries, to prevent any further suffering the kindest thing was to put them to sleep.”

Mrs Scanlin said: “ The RSPCA man said the pigeon had lots of injuries and he thought he had been dropped by a bird of prey.

“I was not impressed the RSPB were not able to help.

However, they advised me to go to the RSPCA.

“I would like to thank the RSPCA in what Inspector Milborrow did to help.
