A BLUE plaque commemorating Freemason activity in the town has been unveiled at the Barry Masonic Hall on Broad Street.
The deputy provincial grand master of South Wales Freemasons Roy Woodward, while visiting Breaksea Lodge Installation, invited Worshipful Brother David Westall to assist in unveiling the very first Blue Plaque on a Masonic Centre in south Wales.
The Blue Plaque displays the Provincial Crest and features the words: "Freemasons have held meetings in Barry since 1890".
Worshipful master of Breaksea Lodge Kevin Hearne said: "I wish to thank Sign of the Times for their craftsmanship and professionalism in pulling out all the stops to deliver the Blue Plaque in time for our ceremony."
The next Blue Plaque is due to be unveiled by provincial grand master Gareth Jones at Services Lodge, Penarth, on Thursday, January 19.
Barry Masonic Hall is one of 22 Masonic centres throughout south Wales.
The buildings, which are part of the rich heritage and history of their communities, host over 160 lodges, with 10 lodges based in Barry.
Freemasonry is celebrating 300 years since the formation of the United Grand Lodge in 1717.
As part of the tercentenary, the South Wales Province will be inviting the public to heritage open days and stage a variety of events to showcase the charitable achievements.
