A CAMPAIGN to save one of the Vale’s libraries from council cutbacks has taking another step forward.
Save Rhoose Library supporters delivered a petition containing more than 1000 signatures to the Vale Council’s full meeting last night, Wednesday, December 17, as part of their bid to stop the facility have its opening hours reduced and volunteer staff introduced.
Rhoose councillor, Jeff James in jointly presenting a petition at the Vale Council with cllr Phil Clarke, said: "I present this petition of over 1300 signatures on behalf of the people of Rhoose who are totally opposed to the downgrading of their Library. I call on the administration to reconsider their decision when they consider the final budget proposal".
A public meeting, attended by senior library staff, AM's, councillors, and around 60 residents, was held on Monday, December 15.
The campaigners say thousands of senior citizens and children, who use the service regularly, would be affected if the library was not professionally run.
The Vale Council's has said it needs to make £32million savings during the next three years.
Further details on this and other proposed changes are available online at www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/librarystrategy
The consultation runs until December 31.
