A CAT with the "worst matted fur" ever seen by an RSPCA Cymru inspector has been found in a Barry street.

RSPCA inspectors are appealing for information following the discovery of the cat which was discovered in a "very poor state" in Hunter Street on Tuesday, January 14.

The female tortoiseshell and white cat was found by a member of the public. She was underweight and lethargic and was not wearing a collar.

Following an examination by a vet, 110 grammes of matted fur was removed from the cat’s body. It was also established that the cat wasn’t microchipped.

Inspector Sophie Daniels said: ”This poor cat had the worst case of matting I have ever seen, the fur had knotted into tennis ball-sized lumps all over her body.

"She was in a very poor condition and had runny eyes and breathing difficulties.

“We would like to trace the owner of the cat and would like to speak to anyone who recognises her or who has information about where she might have come from."
